Small Group Training Classes Spring / Summer 2017

Why Small Group Training?

Small Group Training offers a unique opportunity to explore an emerging dimension of fitness by combining Personal Training with Group Fitness. This is a great option for those that are looking for an effective, high quality workout that is focused on skill development, motivation and enhanced fitness. 

Small Group Training focuses on specialized instruction, using specific equipment in a goal-oriented exercise program. 

Participants are NOT required to complete a Comprehensive Fitness Appraisal to participate, however, will be required to fill out pre-participation forms. Expect 4 to 8 participants per session. 

Faculty/Staff Circuits

Join fellow faculty and staff members for a cardio, strength and balance workout in this exciting circuit class.  Our certified coaches will teach a new circuit each class using the TRX, Total Gym, BOSU, Rebounders, Vibe Plate and Lebert Training System to maximize your workout and help you reach your fitness goals.  Spouse members are welcome, too.

    HIIT

    Kick off your day in this new high-intensity class. Take your workout to the next level using some of the latest fitness trends. From TRX to Kettlebells to Gravity Training System, this high-intensity, interval-style class will challenge you to improve your physical fitness and knowledge.

        Strength and Power 101

        A class designed to enhance strength, power, and functional movements through differentiated phases that are fun and fast paced! The goal is to create a more functional athletic body that is more efficient in daily/athletic lifestyles.

          Adventure Race Training

          Challenge and strengthen your body by combining cardio, strength, and agility exercises. Our certified coach will take you through exercises to prepare for your next Tough Mudder or Spartan race!

          Active Aging

          Active Aging takes a proactive approach to aging. Join others in learning a variety of exercises designed to improve our quality of life as we age.  See improvements in your mobility, flexibility, balance, and functional strength. All ages are welcome to follow this progression for overall physical well-being. 

          Hip Hop Fitness

          Dance your way into a new, healthier you. Hip Hop Fitness uses the latest Hip Hop moves in an energizing class to take your workout to the next level. With moves that strengthen, condition, and challenge your body, our OG coaches will keep you lookin’ good and feelin’ fly.

          Couch-to-5K

          Are you new to running and looking forward to running your first 5K? Couch to 5K incorporates cardiovascular and strength training for you to be ready to run 3.1 miles in just ten weeks.  Your Small Group Training coach will keep you motivated, help improve your running form and technique, and design effective walking and running intervals to fully prepare you to ace your 5K! 

            Women's Powerlifting Fundamentals

            Improve your overall strength by learning to properly perform a squat, deadlift, and bench press during this ten-week session.  Our Small Group Training coaches will first assess your strengths and weakness to identify corrective, core, and strength exercises to prepare your body to master these essential lifts with proper technique.  Our coaches will then work with you on strength, power, or endurance to reach your goals.

            TRX Cardio Circuit

            Get ready to mix intervals of high intensity cardio exercises with muscular and core strengthening exercises on the TRX Suspension Training system in this exciting class. See improvements in coordination, strength, mobility, and cardiovascular fitness as your coach tailors the workouts to your fitness goals and needs.  

            Climbing Strength

            This new collaboration between Small Group Training and Auburn Outdoors with take your rock climbing technique to the next level. This training plan is comprised of two days a week with Tuesdays spent on with your certified training coach to strengthen and stretch muscles to improve your strength and flexibility specific to climbing. On Thursdays, work with a professional from Auburn Outdoors on the 50-foot indoor rock climbing wall to build climbing strength and endurance. Previous climbing experience recommended.   

            Kettlebell ViPR Fusion

            This unique fusion class combines two popular fitness trends to challenge core strength and power -- core-strengthening Kettlebell movements merge with dynamic ViPR exercises for a total body strength and cardio workout. Meets in the Circuit Room.

            TRX/RIP Trainer Fusion

            TRX/RIP Trainer Fusion merges the core strengthening exercises of TRX suspension training with the rotational and power exercises of the RIP Trainer. See improvement in sport-specific skills like coordination, power, control, strength, and mobility from this special blend of equipment. Meets in the Circuit Room.

            Circuits

            Challenge and condition your body by combining cardio, strength, and agility exercises in this exciting circuit class. To keep you on your toes, our certified coaches teach a new circuit each class using one station at the TRX, RIP Trainer, Total Gym GRAVITY, BOSU, VibePlate, and Lebert Training Systems. Meets in the Circuit Room.

            Learn, Train, Fuse

            Try a new exercise modality, from Kettlebells to Total Gym to BOSU, each week of this stimulating seven-week session. On day 1, learn proper form, technique, and set up for that week’s modality.  On day 2, your coach will take you through a challenging workout using that piece of equipment.  On day 3, add in skills and equipment from a previous week for a fun, fusion workout. This class will help orient you to the equipment at the Recreation and Wellness Center, as well as improve your form and technique to maximize your fitness goals. Learn about BOSU, TRX, Total Gym Gravity, Kettlebells, Lebert Training Systems, ViPR, and Rebounders. 

            Boot Camp

            Try this Boot Camp-style small group session to improve the components of overall fitness, including muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and agility.  Your coach will keep you on your toes and get your heart rate up while you learn new skills and master new equipment.   

            Outdoor Obstacles

            Gear up for your next obstacle course race with this new Small Group Training class. The outdoor Boot Camp-style workout will help to improve your components of overall fitness, including muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and agility to prepare you for your next obstacle course race. Your coach will keep you on your toes and get your heart rate up while you learn new skills and improve your functional movements. 

            Heart Rate Circuit Training

            Use our MyZone heart rate monitors to gauge your workload while we challenge and condition your body. Our certified coaches fuse cardio, strength, and agility exercises in this exciting circuit training. Every class is full of fun and fresh new circuit stations.  Stations include TRX, RIP Trainer, Total Gym Gravity Training System, BOSU, Vibe Plate, and the Lebert Training System. 

            Strength Essentials

            Improve your overall strength by learning to properly perform a squat, deadlift and bench press in this ten-week session.  Our Small Group Training coaches will assess your strengths and weaknesses to identify corrective exercises that will prepare your body and build a strength foundation for these essential lifts.  Our coaches will then work with you to strengthen and prefect
