Explore Alabama! The Walls of Jericho is a great weekend adventure whether you’re a beginner or an expert. This 7 mile out-and-back hike is said to be one of the best in the state. This hike will take you past sinkholes and caves, across beautiful blue-green streams, and culminate in a spectacular high-walled limestone canyon with breathtaking waterfalls.

Location: Hytop , Alabama (Al Hwy 79, Estillfork, AL 35745)

Hiking Pace: Hiking Pace will vary from 1-2 miles per hour based on terrain, plan accordingly!

Water Availability

The trail hikes along many creeks and streams, all with water that can be filtered or treated for drinking. You MUST know how to filter or treat water before hiking this trail. If you don’t know how, we’ve got some tips for you.

Directions to Trailhead

GPS from Auburn to Scottsboro. Once there, take Alabama Highway 79 North 26 miles. You will pass the Walls of Jericho Equestrian trailhead on the left. Just after that the Hiker trailhead will be on the left. If you hit the Tennessee state line, you’ve gone too far.

Camping

There are primitive campsites all along the trail, look for fire rings. Our favorite is a large campsite along mile 2.5 to the left of Clark Cemetery!
