Evolve Fitness Symposium 2015

General Information

  • Parking:  Coliseum lot – adjacent to Rec and Wellness Center; signs posted to identify lot
  • Registration: 
    • Friday  2:00 - 7:00 pm on Lower Level (AU Room) – presenters can test their Power Point in that room at registration
    • Saturday 7:00 - 7:45 am on Lower Level (MAC Gym). Everyone must sign a liability waiver to receive a swag bag.
  • Nametags: Required at ALL times.  You must wear your nametag to get into the facility, throughout the facility to get into sessions and to the social Saturday night.  If you do not have your nametag, please go to Conference Central for assistance.
  • Conference Central: The central hub for information about open sessions, Lost and Found, and connecting with friends; located on Heisman Level once you enter the turn styles
  • Social: Dress is casual, hors d’oeuvres provided, transportation from the Coliseum to the Bank Vault will run from 7:15pm-9:30pm with the last run being at 9:30pm. Parking downtown is limited so this is an option. After 9:30pm transportation is on you. Please bring your nametag and driver’s license.
  • Dress Code for Conference: Workout attire; bring a jacket for between sessions. Locker rooms available to change.
  • Guidebook Download: All conference details and updates will be communicated through Guidebook. Please download the Guidebook app and search for "Evolve Fitness Symposium."
  • CEU Certificates for the Conference – Will be in the swag bags.
  • Pre-con CEU Certificates: Distributed at the Pre-con class.
  • Swag Bags: Pre-con attendees who are not registered for the conference do not receive a swag bag. If you are interested in registering for the full conference please do so before March 6.

For Presenters

  • Lectures: Held in Lecture Room A or B. Personal laptop not required, internet access available. Bring your presentation on a jump drive.
  • Activity Sessions: If you are using a PowerPoint or Prezi please bring your laptop and an adaptor (Apple or Lenovo).
  • Handouts: Please bring your own handouts for your class. Printing is not available.
  • Guidebook: For your session time please refer to Guidebook. We recommend you arrive to your location 10 minutes prior to your session for set-up. We have volunteers available to assist with set-up.
  • Friday Registration: Opportunity to test laptop with AV system. If you check-in on Saturday we cannot run a test. Preview of your space is also available on Friday.
  • Sessions Times: Strictly limited to 55 minutes. Room monitors will alert you at the 5 minute warning time and will stop you at the 55 minute mark. Please be respectful of fellow presenters. 

For Master Trainers

  • Master Classes: will be Saturday, March 14th at 8:15am, immediately following the Welcome Ceremony.
  • Student Hosts: will greet you at 7:30am to assist with setup.
  • U-Jam Fitness Master Class: On Courts 1 & 2, 8:15am-9:15am. Max Capacity:125.
  • Schwinn Cycling Master Class: In Cycling Studio, 8:15am-9:15am. Max Capacity 20.
  • Cybex: The Forward Lunge: In Lecture Rooms, 8:15am-9:15am. Max Capacity 75.

Who Should Attend

The event is open to students, Campus Recreation professionals, and community fitness professionals in and around the southeast. The intent is to bring students, instructors, and professionals together for a unique training and networking opportunity.

Keynote Address and Workout with Martin Rooney of Training for Warriors

Martin Rooney is an internationally recognized pioneer of strength and conditioning for the martial arts. He holds a master of health science and a bachelor of physical therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina. He also holds a bachelor of arts in exercise science from Furman University.

Martin was a four-time All-Conference, and four-time MVP performer in track and field at Furman and a member of the U.S. Bobsled team (1995-1997, 2000). 

Following his exposure to MMA in the mid 1990s, Martin began training with Renzo Gracie and started training fighters shortly afterward. Since the foundation of the Training for Warriors (TFW) system, Martin has traveled around the world to train, compete, and conduct seminars and help prepare world-class athletes for competition.

Martin has been featured on ESPN, ESPN2, Spike TV, Sports New York, Fox Sports Net, Fox Fight Game, the NFL Network, HDnet,,, and in the New York Times, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Journal, The Sporting News, Stack Magazine, FIGHT!, Fight Sport, Fighters Only, Grappling, and Sports Illustrated for Kids.
