Job Description

Essential Functions                        

  • Support instructors by assisting with participant check-in, class set up, and trouble-shooting issues as needed
  • Track professional development points awarded to instructors for specific behaviors
  • Create weekly newsletter as a communication tool among the Group Fitness team (both student staff and professional)
  • Verify the publicized Group Fitness schedule across all platforms
  • Manage IM Leagues by inputting class sessions, managing changes, transferring the Fusion report, assisting with troubleshooting
  • Track inventory of equipment and uniforms
  • Manage iPad and mic check-out system
  • Organize and maintain neat storage areas in each Group Fitness room
  • Assist with the organizations and execution of special events hosted by the Group Fitness program
  • Answer general group fitness emails sent by pass holders and other members
  • Assist with basic training course offered fall semester and the evaluation of all instructors during spring semester
  • Collect statistical data from multiple sources report to the professional staff

Job Expectations

  • Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings
  • Acts an ambassador for Campus Recreation in the Group Fitness program both at work and away
  • Willing to sub for a class at the last minute
  • Troubleshoot IM Leagues issues with online chat service
  • Able to give valuable feedback to peers to improve skill performance and presentation
  • Communicate task completion and progress regularly to the professional staff
  • Clean and maintain equipment and facilities on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 2-6 hour shifts Monday – Thursday 5:30am – 9:00 pm, Fridays 5:30am – 6:00 pm, Saturdays 9:30am – 6:00pm, and Sundays 2:00pm – 7:00 pm.  This position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours available during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 5 hours per week is required, with a maximum of 10 hours.

Job Requirements

  • Must have worked in Group Fitness Instructor role at the Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center for at least one semester, demonstrating consistent quality performance
  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Must obtain and maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED certification

Physical Requirements

  • Need to be in good physical condition and willing to move around the facility during the shift 
  • Able to lift and clean equipment and organize storage areas
  • Able to teach multiple formats
