Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Enforce established policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety for various intramural activities such as mens’, womens’ and co-rec flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball
  • Control all game situations, both in and around the game play, which might occur during intramural team activities
  • Understand and enforce all game rules, including the spirit of the rules
  • Verify participant eligibility based on provided team rosters
  • Lead captain’s meeting prior to each contest to summarize rules of game play and contest guidelines

  • Ensure participants are properly attired and equipped according to the established game rules
  • Utilize whistle, proper officiating mechanics and strong voice to demonstrate confidence and control of game play
  • Assign sportsmanship rating at conclusion of contest based on established guidelines
  • Enforce established policies relating to inactive participants and spectators
  • Address rule interpretation requests, conflicts, and disputes which arise during the game
  • Handle on site disputes involving player conflicts and rule interpretations to help prevent potential problems
  • Finalize and submit all scorecards to Competitive Sports Supervisor at the end of each shift
  • Complete check-in and check-out process for game play and officiating equipment
  • Apply feedback given during officials’ evaluations to improve performance

  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
  • Utilize training to provide quality officiating during contests, implementing feedback to constantly improve performance
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor, communicating with participants in a clear and concise manner
  • Collaborate with other members of officiating crew to provide adequate game coverage
  • Greet participants warmly and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that cultivates long-term participation
  • Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
  • Present a professional appearance, dressed in provided uniforms, and enthusiastic attitude
  • Attend and actively participate in all mandatory in-services and trainings
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 2-4 hour shifts Sunday - Thursday 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm. This position is available Fall, and Spring semesters with no hours available for work during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 4 hours per week is expected, with a maximum of 20 hours per week allowed.  

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to work both indoors and outdoors
  • Expected to be physically active for the duration of a 2-4 hour shift, and the physical ability to keep up with the sports being officiated
  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous officiating experience, previous knowledge of the sport
