Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Scheduling all Membership student staff using When to Work  software
  • Communicate important information to student staff, as well as communicate staff concerns and issues to professional staff
  • Assist professional staff with building the agendas for bi-weekly supervisor meetings
  • Coordinate Supervisor in Training process to ensure that required skills are mastered
  • Sell memberships, guest and group fit passes and locker and towel services to members using Fusion point of sale and credit card terminals
  • Greet members and guests in a cheerful and welcoming manner to create and maintain an atmosphere that cultivates long-term participation
  • Troubleshoot facility access issues by verifying member access and appropriate membership status
  • Provide access to members wishing to utilize the one-time Forgot ID access; document in Fusion software
  • Sell memberships, guest and group fit passes and locker and towel services to members using Fusion point of sale and credit card terminals
  • Clean lobby, staircase, and mezzanine level lobby areas and furnishings with provided cleaning supplies
  • Direct member traffic in turnstile area, educating members on correct card swipe and turnstile use
  • Check and restock supplies in Faculty/Staff Locker Rooms and mezzanine level bathrooms
  • Receive and document lost and found items, return and document claimed items to owners, and process items for short and long term storage
  • Assist with locker cleanout on a semesterly basis, including cleaning, processing contents, resetting combinations, and reporting maintenance issues
  • Direct position rotation of shift personnel: maintenance, greeter, desk positions and turnstile overview
  • Organize transaction receipts in preparation of nightly credit card batch settlement
  • Conduct on the job and/or lecture style training for Membership Specialists
  • Document staff performance, both positive and negative, via written forms to provide feedback to employees; forward to professional staff
  • Complete a detailed Supervisor Shift Report to communicate shift rotation task completion, staffing, facility issues, and shift evaluation

Job Expectations

  • Acts an ambassador for Campus Recreation both at work and away
  • Use Membership Bulletin platform to stay informed of all facility closures, amended hours, program updates, staffing changes, and special visitors and tours, disseminating all information to staff and incoming members and guests as needed regarding facility or program changes
  • Know all memberships offered and eligibility for each type: Students, Faculty/Staff and Associates
  • Utilize data available (Fusion, active employee file) to sell appropriate membership according to relationship to university
  • Serve as an ongoing resource to others on shift, sharing knowledge and experience with others
  • Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic team attitude
  • Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies
  • Ignore personal preferences in building weekly work schedule to balance skill sets of staff on each shift
  • Effectively communicate and respond to any needed staffing changes

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 3-4 hour shifts Monday – Friday 7:45am-4:45pm.  This position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours available for work during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 10 hours per week is expected, with a maximum of 20 hours.  

Job Requirements

  • Must have worked in Membership Supervisor role at the Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center for at least two semesters, demonstrating consistent quality performance
  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Must obtain and maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Complete Securing the Human training within one week of email notification (annually)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong problem solving skills

Physical Requirements

Position requires ability to stand for 15 minute segments a well as standing while on the computer, walking through the facility for maintenance shifts and going up and downstairs.
