Marketing Manager

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Check project management software daily for upcoming tasks, deadlines, and new projects
  • Assign detailed tasks to team members as needed, based on Project Request Forms
  • Proof/edit team posts in all social channels for approval
  • Verify information, dates, proper image usage, grammar, punctuation, and hashtags for all content  
  • Create content for multiple social media channels including research, writing copy, scheduling photography, gifs/hashtags, video, etc.
  • Assign special projects to graphic designers for seasonal design and program promotion for all social platforms, digital signage, Be Well and the web
  • Conduct university recruiting events independently or with minimal supervision, from planning and gathering material to serving as an onsite representative of Campus Recreation
  • Make daily content decisions, based on the Campus Recreation brand, mission, vision, and values
  • Coordinate and assign student photographers for programs, events, Be Well, etc.
  • Oversee photo quality for all social channels, Be Well, the Campus Recreation website, and all print material and branding
  • Create monthly editorial calendar for Be Well (bewellauburn.com)
  • Attend bi-weekly editorial meetings to discuss upcoming topics, photography, sources, etc.
  • Brainstorm and assign topics to team writers, based on a two-week writing cycle
  • Approve and format all Be Well stories prior to publication  
  • Attend regular creative meetings and make valuable team contributions regarding efficiency, idea generation, and processes
  • Develop and implement social media strategies and marketing plans independently or with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Assign tasks to team members and ensure work is submitted accurately and on time
  • Communicate departmental information to team(s) and verify all team members have received and understand the information
  • Write error-free copy and edits the work of others, based on the AP Style Guide
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills; is results-oriented and creative with leadership and entrepreneurial leanings
  • Has fundamental background in marketing's functional core including: advertising, research, consumer behavior, and strategy
  • Meet weekly with Assistant Director of Marketing to plan successful marketing strategies, communicate challenges, and discuss new ideas and departmental goals
  • Effectively communicate and mentor peer team members in multiple areas, while maintaining positive relationships, and team camaraderie
  • Take initiative to implement new ideas and provide solutions to common marketing challenges.
  • Understand intended audience and recognize appropriate promotion outlets most effective for each program/event
  • Demonstrate proven mastery of departmental software including Teamwork PM, Trello, Agora Pulse, Slack, When to Work, and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Make high-level decisions regarding content, in line with the Campus Recreation brand, mission, vision and values
  • Follow all team rules and meets assigned deadlines
  • Utilizes When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies
  • Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude

General Schedule

This position will predominantly be scheduled to work 2-6 hour shifts Monday – Friday 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., with occasional night and weekend work.  This position is available fall, spring, and summer semesters with limited hours available for work during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 12 hours per week is expected, with a maximum of 20 hours.

Job Requirements

  • Must have worked in Marketing Assistant role at the Auburn University Recreation and Wellness Center for at least one semester, demonstrating consistent quality performance
  • Is a currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.0

Physical Requirements

Position may require loading and unloading of displays, booths, supplies, banners, etc. used in experiential marketing and tabling. May work inside or outside for events, programs, photo shoots, videography, and other activities as assigned by supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, web/IT, and/or media studies curriculum
  • Possesses strong analytical skills
