Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Oversee game situations for multiple playing venues, both in and around game play, to enforce established policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety for various intramural  and club sport activities
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with supervisor staff to communicate playing venue assignments and review pertinent game rules and policies
  • Assign officials to playing venues according to experience level of officiating staff;  Make last minute schedule adjustments necessitated by staffing shortages, ensuring that programming operates at a successful level
  • Oversee supervisors’ and officials’ enforcement of established policies relating to inactive participants and spectators on multiple playing venues
  • Provide input to supervisors and officials on rule interpretation requests, conflicts, and altercations which arise during game play;  Makes final decision on all issues 
  • Ensure all data from finalized scorecards is input into I/M Leagues by supervisor staff
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to officials and supervisor staff via evaluations
  • Complete incident reports immediately following incidents via electronic means
  • Direct staff and assist in outdoor field set ups for game play, checking for safety of playing venues and equipment readiness.  Operate ATVs to ensure efficient set-up, unlocking equipment as needed.
  • Manage supervisor staff to ensure that all equipment is safe and secured at the end of the night
  • Initiate emergency and evacuation procedures that include care for injured, start of emergency action plan, and the notification of appropriate university and community authorities
  • Perform routine field lining and setup of intramural and sport club fields
  • Monitor game venues and officiating and supervisor staff to ensure competitive sports events are being run according to established rules and guidelines
  • Monitor weather to determine delays or cancellations of in progress games and club practices to ensure safety of participants
  • Act as primary source of communication between scheduled bi-weekly staff meetings, guaranteeing program needs are relayed to proper staff
  • Assist in the training of officials by providing feedback to professional staff about clinic content and conducting portions of on-site officiating clinics
  • Communicate any staff, facility, or participant issues via electronic shift reports
  • Track equipment inventory at the end of each shift and at the end of each semester
  • Utilize conflict resolution skills to diffuse heightened situations involving staff and/or participants
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor, communicating with participants in a clear and concise manner
  • Remain knowledgeable about all game rules along with an additional understanding of Competitive Sports operations and facilities 
  • Greet members warmly and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that cultivates long-term participation
  • Clean and maintain equipment and facilities on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis
  • Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
  • Attend weekly meetings to discuss prevalent issues and brainstorm ways to enhance the program
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies
  • Acts an ambassador for Campus Recreation both at work and away

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 3-5 hour shifts Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am - 11:00 pm.  This position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours available for work during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 15 hours per week is required, with a maximum of 20 hours. Ideally managers will consistently work 20 hours per week.

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Must obtain and maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Must have worked in competitive sports supervisor role for at least one semester, demonstrating consistent quality performance
  • The ability to work both indoors and outdoors
  • This position might be asked to lift, push, or pull sporting equipment
  • Expected to be physically active for the duration of the shift and the physical ability to keep up with the sports being officiated

Preferred Qualifications

Worked in competitive sports supervisor role for at least one year, demonstrating consistent quality performance

Compensation

  • Level I - $9.25 per hour
  • Level II - $9.50 per hour
  • Level III - $9.75 per hour
