Job Description

General

  • Support student staff in regular duties and operations
  • Assist the professional staff in day-to-day operations of the specific program area
  • Assist with developing curriculum and training attendants/technicians
  • Assist professional staff in various administrative tasks
  • Assist with daily, monthly, and semester inventory of rental, climbing, bike or trip equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized climbing wall, trip storage, rental center, and/or bike shop area
  • Greet members professionally and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that motivates long-term participation in various outdoor activities
  • Assist in ordering supplies, parts and or equipment as necessary
  • Assist other Managers in their daily roles as necessary
  • Assist in scheduling the appropriate number of competent staff to work shifts
  • Assist with facilitating and implementation of Auburn Outdoors programs
  • Instruct members on the proper usage of outdoor equipment and recommend safety precautions
  • Evaluate and improve trip operations including preparation, curriculum, and implementation of programs
  • Train trip leaders in various tasks related to outdoor programming
  • Assist trip leaders in tasks related to trip preparation including purchasing and portioning food
  • Assist members in planning their own adventures
  • Debrief trip leaders experiences with an emphasis on experiential learning through reflection
  • Shadow, facilitate, and develop curriculum for all climbing wall workshops, being sure to deliver adequate feedback to instructors
  • Organize stripping, setting, and evaluate climbing wall routes and bouldering problems on a weekly  basis
  • Train Climbing Technicians in setting, maintenance, and inspections of equipment
  • Assist with annual climbing competition
  • Conduct lead skills verifications using tablets and assign appropriate membership type

Trip Manager / Climbing Wall Manager / Bike Shop Manager

  • Train Bike Technicians in proper maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Assist with facilitating bicycle technician trainings and bicycle programs
  • Administer competency audits to bike technicians
  • Maintains a clean and organized bike shop area
  • Assist members with planning bicycle outings
  • Assist with the preparation for Auburn Outdoor bicycle trips including packing, loading, and maintenance of bicycle equipment
  • Train Attendants on the proper usage of rental equipment and recommend safety precautions so that they can better accommodate members
  • Maintain organization of rental center contracts and file accordingly, making appropriate copies
  • Ensure Attendants are completing competency audits
  • Ensure Attendants are effectively communicating the details of the rental contract: personal responsibility, proper usage, safety, associated fees, and associated risks
  • Ensure Attendants are building reservations correctly
  • Ensure Attendants are correctly assigning late, replacement and damage fees
  • Ensure all sales receipts and close out sales are done correctly during scheduled time
  • Assist with the preparation for Auburn Outdoor trips

Rental Shop Manager

Job Expectations

  • Demonstrate a high level of outdoor technical knowledge and local areas to recreate  
  • Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
  • Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings
  • Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 2-6 hour shifts Monday - Sunday 9:00am -12:00 am. This position is expected to work between 12-15 hours weekly with a maximum of 20. The position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours during semester and holiday breaks. 

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Must have worked in Technician or Trip Leader role at the Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center for at least one semester, demonstrating consistent quality performance
  • Obtain and maintain a current CPR / First Aid / AED certification
  • Complete Secure the Human Training within one week of email notification (annually)
  • Must maintain a valid Top Rope Skills Verification at the Campus Recreation Climbing Wall
  • Must complete Climbing Wall Instructor Course through PCIA, AMGA, or CWA

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift approximately 35 lbs.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
  • Experiences with multiple disciplines of outdoor recreation
  • Participation in Auburn Outdoors Programming
