All duties of a Climbing Wall Attendant with the addition of all the following:
Supervise climbing wall usage during normal operating hours
Act as a liaison between Attendants, Climbing Wall Manager, and Professional Staff
Facilitate Fundamentals of Climbing Workshops addressing all learning styles
Strip, set, maintain, and evaluate climbing wall routes and bouldering problems
Assist with regularly scheduled inspection of equipment and facilities
Supervise climbing wall usage during normal operating hours
Utilization of Fusion for sales, equipment rental, and climbing wall memberships
Act as a liaison between Attendants and Climbing Wall Manager/Coordinator
Greet members warmly and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that cultivates long-term participation
Conduct lead skills verifications using tablets and assign appropriate membership type
Re-tape routes and problems that are missing tape
Clean the climbing wall holds not currently in use
Facilitate Lead Climbing workshops (if CWI lead endorsed), Route Setting Workshops, and any other climbing workshops
Assist with annual climbing competition and other wall programming
Job Expectations
Fulfill role of supervisor and role model to Climbing Wall Attendants maintaining risk management expectations and promoting a culture of safety
Demonstrate a high level of climbing technical and equipment knowledge in regards to usage, rescues, and maintenance
Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings
Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies
General Schedule
This position will be scheduled to work 2-4 hour shifts Monday - Sunday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. Technicians typically are expected to work 10-15 hours weekly with a maximum of 20. The position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours during semester and holiday breaks.
Job Requirements
Required Experience
Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
Obtain and maintain a current CPR / First Aid / AED certification
Complete Secure the Human Training within 1 week of email notification
Must maintain a valid Top Rope Skills Verification at the Campus Recreation Climbing Wall
Must complete Climbing Wall Instructor Course through PCIA, AMGA, or CWA
Capacity for leadership and/or supervisor responsibilities
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift ~35 lbs
Must be able to efficiently move up and down the wall while either climbing or ascending
Preferred Qualifications
Worked as an Auburn Outdoors Attendant for at least one semester
Certified Climbing Wall Instructor (PCIA or AMGA)
Lead skills verified at the Campus Recreation Climbing Wall
Has previously participated in Community Route Setting Workshop and Open Setting times
