Instruct members on the proper usage of rental/climbing equipment and recommend safety precautions
Greet members professionally and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that motivates long-term participation in various outdoor activities
Utilize Fusion for sales, equipment rental, and climbing wall memberships
Clean and maintain equipment and facilities on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis
Assist members with planning adventures outside
Effectively communicate with members on the details of the rental equipment including personal responsibility, proper usage, safety, associated fees, and associated risks
Adequately build reservations, verifying that equipment works and all contents are present
Assign late, replacement, and damage fees if needed
Maintain organization of rental center contracts and file accordingly
Correctly manage, organize, and batch sales during the scheduled time
Assist in the preparation of Auburn Outdoor trips
Ensure members are adhering to climbing wall policies and procedures
Communicate with members the associated risks in climbing
Assist new members with climbing techniques, equipment usage, and auto-belay
Conduct top rope skills verifications and orientations using tablets and assign appropriate membership type
Safely belay members when appropriate
Maintain a clean and functional climbing wall facility
Conduct daily inventory checks, marking any questionable equipment
Job Expectations
Demonstrate a basic level of outdoor equipment knowledge in regards to usage, cleaning, maintenance, and repair
Utilize When to Work to communicate work availability to supervisors and co-workers
Arrive promptly for shifts, dressed in provided uniforms, presenting a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude
Attend all mandatory in-services and training
Follow procedures set forth in the employee handbook, as well as all departmental and university policies
General Schedule
This position will be scheduled to work 2-4 hour shifts Monday - Sunday 12:00 pm -11:00 pm. This position is expected to work at least 10 hours weekly with a maximum of 20. The position is available in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with limited hours during the semester and holiday breaks.
Job Requirements
Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
Obtain and maintain a current CPR / First Aid / AED certification
Complete Securing the Human training within one week of email notification (annually)
Must maintain a valid Top Rope Skills Verification at the Campus Recreation climbing wall
Must complete a Climbing Wall Instructor Course through PCIA, AMGA, or CWA
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift ~35lbs
